All about the United Kingdom’s national, regional and local press

Motherwell Times

The Motherwell Times is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the town of Motherwell in North Lanarkshire, together with surrounding smaller towns and villages in the area such as Newarthill and Holytown.

It was founded in 1883 by Donald MacLeod and has kept the same name ever since. It’s now published by Johnston (Falkirk) Ltd, the original company behind the major Johnston Press regional and local newspaper publishing concern. The editorial offices are in Motherwell.

It has a local sub-edition for Bellshill, the Bellshill Speaker. An associated weekly freesheet, the North Lanarkshire Extra, ceased publication in late 2011.

It comes out on Thursdays.
