All about the United Kingdom’s national, regional and local press

Wigan Courier

The Wigan Courier is a freesheet tabloid newspaper distributed to over 34,000 homes (as of 2012) throughout the Wigan area, including Standish, Shevington and Winstanley.

It was founded in 1998 as the Standish Courier. It’s an independent newspaper published by Standish Media Services Ltd; predictably, its offices are in Standish. Perhaps uniquely among British newspapers, it’s published every three weeks, on Tuesdays.

It bills itself as “the all colour good news newspaper for Wiganers” and “the antidote to the depression, bad news and negativity of traditional regional newspapers”. (Former BBC newsreader Martyn Lewis would be proud.)

An e-edition’s available via the website, which is that of Standish Media Services rather than specifically of the Courier; the link below is to their newspapers page.
