Richmond & Twickenham Times

The Richmond & Twickenham Times is a weekly, mostly freesheet tabloid newspaper delivered to homes in the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames.

It was founded in 1873. It’s been published by Newsquest (South London) since they took it over in 2001. The editorial offices are in Twickenham.

Until 2008 it was a paid-for broadsheet newspaper, but switched to tabloid format in January and substantially increased its circulation in the autumn by becoming mostly freesheet, although some copies (about seven per cent of the total) are still sold through newsagents. At the same time Newsquest dropped the paid-for title’s associated freesheet tabloid, the Richmond Guardian.

It was previously the main title in a series of Times newspapers covering the London Boroughs of Richmond-upon-Thames and Hounslow and the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames. There were formerly four other titles, which had a much smaller circulation:

  • Barnes, Mortlake & Sheen Times
  • Brentford, Chiswick & Isleworth Times
  • Kingston, Surbiton & New Malden Times
  • Teddington & Hampton Times

However, by 2010 there were just two other titles in the series, the Hounslow & Brentford Times and the Chiswick Times. Both ceased publication in July of that year.

It comes out on Fridays. An e-edition’s also available on the website.
