Pontefract & Castleford Extra (defunct)
The Pontefract & Castleford Extra was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper serving homes in the West Yorkshire towns of Pontefract and Castleford, as well as the surrounding area including Hemsworth, Featherstone, Knottingley and Ackworth.
It was published by the Wakefield-based Yorkshire Weekly News Group, part of the nationwide newspaper group Johnston Press plc. It was the freesheet companion to the Pontefract & Castleford Express and produced from offices in Castleford. (The Extra had no website of its own; the link below is to the Express‘s website.)
It came out on Fridays.
In 2009 it amalgamated with the Wakefield Extra and the Ossett & Horbury Observer to form a new title, the Midweek Extra.
