Helston Packet

The Helston Packet is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in and around the town of Helston in southern Cornwall, including Porthleven, Mullion and the Lizard peninsula.

It’s one of a series of Packet weekly tabloids that originated with the Falmouth Packet & Cornish Herald in 1829 – apparently set up in competition with the 1803-founded title the Royal Cornwall Gazette, Falmouth Packet & Plymouth Journal. The Helston Packet is much newer, having first been published in 1969.

It’s published by Newsquest (South West). The editorial offices are in Falmouth.

Its web presence is as a subdomain of the Falmouth Packet‘s website.

A companion freesheet quarter-fold tabloid for the area, the Helston Gazette, was first relaunched as the Helston, The Lizard & West Cornwall Gazette and then absorbed into the West Cornwall Packet in 2012.

It comes out on Wednesdays.
