South Tyne Star (defunct)

The South Tyne Star was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the southern side of the mouth of the Tyne, taking in the towns of South Shields, Jarrow, Hebburn and Boldon.

It was published by Sunderland-based Northeast Press, part of the UK-wide regional newspaper giants Johnston Press. It was part of a series of Star freesheets founded in 1988 (as The Courier) for the Tyne & Wear metropolitan area and the coastal towns of County Durham.

It had no website of its own; the link below is to Northeast Press’s paid-for evening newspaper for the area, the Shields Gazette.

It came out on Thursdays.

It closed in late February 2011.
