Wee County News (defunct)

The Wee County News was a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in Alloa and (as the name suggests) Scotland’s smallest historic county: Clackmannanshire.

It was founded in 1995. It closed after Forth Independent Newspapers went into liquidation on 24 June 2011, but reopened in September 2011 under the ownership of HUB Media. After eight weeks in temporary accommodation in HUB’s headquarters in Uddingston, it moved back to Alloa in early November 2011. It also underwent a shift of publication day, from Wednesday to Friday. After February 2012 it came out on Tuesdays.

In the last few months of its publication it had no website; its Facebook page was apparently abandoned in March 2013, and its Twitter handle was taken over by an individual. It was available as an e-edition, first by paid subscription and then free under HUB Media. Archived e-editions can be found by a web search, but none subsequent to December 2012 appears to be available.
