All about the United Kingdom’s national, regional and local press

The Shetland Times

The Shetland Times is an independent weekly tabloid newspaper published principally for the Shetland Islands, though it’s also sold in the Orkneys and parts of northern mainland Scotland. It’s published by Shetland Times Ltd, who are based in Lerwick.

It was founded as The Zetland Times, and Orkney and Shetland Advertiser in 1872 but switched to its present title in the following year. It briefly had a midweek edition, The Peerie Times, in 1874.

It was the first Scottish regional weekly newspaper to establish an online presence, in 1996.

It comes out on Fridays. An e-edition’s also available online, by paid subscription.
