Scottish News of the World (defunct)

The Scottish News of the World was, as the name suggests, the edition for Scotland of the UK-wide red-top Sunday tabloid newspaper, the News of the World.

It was produced from offices in Glasgow, which it shared with other News International newspapers with a presence in Scotland, including The Scottish Sun and The Times. The content was largely a repeat of the London version, although more prominence was given to Scottish sport and some additional Scottish news stories.

The website went behind a paywall in October 2010, leaving only the websites of The Sun and its Scottish edition free to general access among News International’s national newspaper websites.

Once behind the paywall, an e-edition was available as well as the website itself.

It closed, along with its parent newspaper, on 10 July 2011 in the wake of revelations of illegal phone hacking by NotW staff. The website now consists only of an index page saying “Thank you & goodbye” – the headline from the final edition.
