DNG Media

DNG Media is a trading name of Annandale Observer Limited, who as the name suggests are the publishers of the Annandale Observer and of three other titles in the Dumfriesshire area, making them the largest independent publishers of newspapers in Dumfries & Galloway. Their headquarters – which are also the editorial offices of all four papers – are in Annan.

History

The company’s origins can be found in the foundation of the Observer in 1857. The Observer isn’t the oldest DNG newspaper, however; that distinction belongs to the Dumfries Courier, founded nearly half a century earlier in 1809. However, it didn’t pass into DNG’s ownership until 1929.

The Annandale Herald was established in 1862; the Moffat News, initially a sub-edition of the Herald, in 1914. The latter two titles were published by Annandale Herald Limited, which although still registered at Companies House is now dormant.

Annandale Observer Limited was incorporated in 1977.
