All about the United Kingdom’s national, regional and local press

Ulster Star

The Ulster Star is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the city and district of Lisburn, on the boundary of Counties Antrim and Down to the south-west of Belfast, including nearby Hillsborough, Moira, Crumlin and Dromore.

It was founded in 1957. It’s published by Morton Newspapers, a holding company owned by nationwide publishers of regional newspapers Johnston Press. It shares its editorial offices in Lisburn with a weekly freesheet tabloid companion, the Lisburn Echo.

From 1987 there was a separate edition for Dromore, occasionally as a separate title, the Dromore Star; it continued at least until 2006. There was another edition for Castlereagh from 1993 to 1998.

It comes out on Fridays. An e-edition’s also available by email through paid subscription.
