Thorne Gazette (defunct)

The Thorne Gazette (in full, the Thorne and District Gazette) was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper delivered to homes in the town and district of Thorne in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, including the smaller towns of Stainforth and Hatfield.

It was launched in November 1994 by South Yorkshire Newspapers Ltd, a branch of nationwide publishers of regional newspapers Johnston Press. The editorial offices were in Thorne until 2011, but were centralised into a “multi-media hub” in Doncaster that summer – a move which caused the loss of several editorial jobs and in turn provoked an eight-week strike by journalists.

It came out on Thursdays.

It was absorbed into SYN’s paid-for title for the area, the Doncaster Free Press, in May 2012.
