Filey & Hunmanby Mercury

The Filey & Hunmanby Mercury is a weekly tabloid newspaper for the seaside resort town of Filey in the North Riding of Yorkshire, nearby Hunmanby, and other villages within a 10-mile radius of Filey, including Muston, Gristhorpe and Speeton.

It’s published by Yorkshire Regional Newspapers, a division of Johnston Press, from the editorial offices of The Scarborough News in Scarborough.

Unusually for a non-sports weekly newspaper, it comes out on Saturdays. This may be explained by the fact that it originated as the Filey edition of the old Scarborough Mercury (founded in 1875 as The Scarborough Mercury and Filey List of Visitors), which at the time of its demise in 1991 was the Saturday Mercury, the Saturday edition of what was then the Scarborough Evening News.

Besides its main website, the newspaper used to have a community website for Hunmanby: http://www.hunmanbytoday.co.uk/, which now however redirects to the URL given below.

Its editorship merged with that of the Evening News when that became The Scarborough News at the end of May 2012.
