All about the United Kingdom’s national, regional and local press

Wells Journal

The Wells Journal is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the Somerset cathedral city of Wells and the surrounding parts of North East Somerset.

It was founded in 1851 and has kept its original title throughout.

It’s published by Wells Newspapers Ltd, a sub-division of Mid Somerset News & Media Ltd, which itself was part of Northcliffe Media, the regional newspaper publishing arm of the Daily Mail & General Trust until the end of 2012, when Northcliffe became the major part of the new Local World group.

It’s published from editorial offices in Wells which it shares with its sister paper, the Shepton Mallet Journal.

In common with virtually all Northcliffe newspapers prior to the creation of Local World, it had no website of its own and shared a website with other newspapers published in the same area – in the case of Somerset, Northcliffe’s thisissomerset.co.uk portal website. However, Local World decided early on that all their titles should have their own “publisher-branded” websites.

It comes out on Thursdays.
