Canterbury Extra

The Canterbury Extra – in full, the Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay Extra – is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper delivered to households in and around the cathedral city and district of Canterbury in northern Kent, including the nearby coastal towns of Whitstable and Herne Bay as well as Faversham.

It’s published by the KM Group (publishers of the Kent Messenger, hence the KM) from editorial offices in Whitstable as a companion to their paid-for title for the district, the Kentish Gazette. As well as the editorial offices, it also shares its parent newspaper’s website.

It was founded in the 1980s (1986?). Until 2007, and again from 2009 to 2010, Whitstable and Herne Bay were covered by their own local editions.

About a tenth of the print run is distributed brand-to-hand and via pickup points in the three title towns.

It comes out on Fridays. It’s also available online as an e-edition:
