Ashford Extra

The Ashford Extra is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the town and Borough of Ashford in central southern Kent.

It’s published by the KM Group (formerly the Kent Messenger Group) and is a companion to their paid title for the area, the Kentish Express, with which it shares editorial offices (in Ashford) and a website.

It was launched in 1967 as the Ashford Advertiser. In 1984 it was relaunched as the Ashford Extra: incorporating the Ashford Advertiser. From 1992 to 2002 it was the Ashford edition of an umbrella newspaper simply called Extra, before (re)adopting its present title. It was briefly known as the Ashford and Tenterden Advertiser from 2007 to 2009.

Although it’s mostly delivered direct to homes, a sizeable chunk of the print run (over a quarter) is distributed via pickup dispensers or given out brand-to-hand.

It comes out on Fridays. It’s also available online as an e-edition:
