Blackpool Citizen (defunct)

The Blackpool Citizen was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the seaside towns of Blackpool, Lytham St Anne’s and Cleveleys on the Lancashire coast and the surrounding parts of the Fylde peninsula, including Thornton and Poulton-le-Fylde.

It was founded in 1978. It was published by Newsquest Blackburn Ltd, part of the nationwide Newsquest group, and came out in two editions: one for Blackpool and Lytham St Anne’s, the other for Thornton, Cleveleys and Poulton.

It ceased publication in December 2008 as a result of the recession. The website was still live four years later, although it carries news for Lancashire more generally rather than specifically for the Fylde peninsula.
