Peterlee Star

The Peterlee Star is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in and around the Co. Durham town of Peterlee and other nearby towns including Easington, Shotton Colliery, Haswell, Wheatley Hill and Wingate.

It was founded in 1988. It’s published by Northeast Press, part of the Johnston Newspapers Northeast division of Johnston Press, who also publish the paid-for daily tabloid the Hartlepool Mail. The editorial offices were previously collocated with the Mail‘s, in Hartlepool, but have now moved to Northeast Press’s Sunderland headquarters.

Online the Star used to piggyback on the website of a sub-edition of the Mail, the Peterlee Mail; but it gained a website of its own in February 2012.

In May 2012 Northeast Press announced that the Star series (which also includes the Washington Star and the Seaham & Houghton Star) were to be relaunched as three separate paid-for titles.

It comes out on Wednesdays. The former free e-edition has now apparently been withdrawn.
