Darlington & Stockton Times

The Darlington & Stockton Times (“Serving Darlington, Barnard Castle and the Dales”) is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in County Durham, Cleveland and North Yorkshire.

It was founded in 1847 as the Darlington & Stockton Times, Ripon & Richmond Chronicle. It’s published by Newsquest (Yorkshire & North East), from offices in Darlington. It has close ties with the daily Northern Echo, whose offices are in the same building.

It underwent a major shake-up in March 2009. Not only did it switch from broadsheet to tabloid format, but the North Yorkshire edition split into two editions. As a result, there are currently four geographical editions:

  • County Durham (covering Darlington, Bishop Auckland, Barnard Castle, Newton Aycliffe and Tow Law)
  • Cleveland (covering Stockton, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Guisborough and Whitby)
  • Hambleton towns of Northallerton, Thirsk and Bedale
  • Richmond, the Dales and Ripon

It comes out on Fridays.
