Scunthorpe Target (defunct)

The Scunthorpe Target was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the town of Scunthorpe and other towns and villages in the unitary authority area of North Lincolnshire, including the towns of Barton-upon-Humber, Brigg, Broughton, Crowle, Kirton in Lindsey and Epworth.

It was launched in 1985. It was published by the Grimsby-based Grimsby & Scunthorpe Media Group, a subsidiary of the Daily Mail & General Trust‘s regional newspaper publishing division, Northcliffe Media. The editorial offices were in Scunthorpe.

It was a companion to the paid-for weekly tabloid newspaper the Scunthorpe Telegraph and shared Northcliffe’s thisisscunthorpe.co.uk website (which used to be the Telegraph‘s but is now a local portal) with it. Until May 2008 it was part of a series with the Grimsby Target, which then became the Grimsby Life.

It came out on Thursdays. At one stage it appeared in three editions: Scunthorpe Target East; Scunthorpe Target West; and the plain Scunthorpe Target. However, the East and West editions were dropped in about 2008.

An e-edition was apparently discontinued in July 2011. It ceased publication altogether in the spring of 2012.
