All about the United Kingdom’s national, regional and local press

The Watford Free

The Watford Free is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper delivered to homes in the town of Watford and nearby towns and villages in south-western Hertfordshire, including Bushey, Kings Langley, Rickmansworth and Chorleywood.

It evolved from the midweek edition of the paid-for weekly newspaper the Watford Observer, which was renamed the Midweek Watford Observer in 1980. In 1984 it was renamed, descriptively if rather wordily, The Free West Herts & Watford Observer, then the Watford Free Observer in 1989. It’s borne its present title since 2004.

It was acquired by Newsquest (London) from Pearson together with its parent newspaper in 1996. It shares the Observer‘s website and editorial offices in Watford.

It comes out on Thursdays. A free e-edition is also available via the website.
