Ely Weekly News

The Ely Weekly News is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the cathedral city of Ely and surrounding parts of the Isle of Ely in northern central Cambridgeshire, including the towns of Littleport, Sutton, Little Downham, Stretham, Witchford and Soham as well as smaller villages.

It’s published by Cambridge Newspapers, a division of Cambridge-based Iliffe News & Media (itself part of the Local World group since late 2012), and is one of a series of Weekly News titles produced by them. It evolved from an earlier series covering Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, western Suffolk and the Isle of Ely, the Town Crier; the Ely edition started in 1987, becoming the Ely Town Crier in 1990 and the Ely Weekly News & Town Crier in 1997 before settling on its present title in 2000.

The editorial offices are in Ely.

In April 2013 it became the first Iliffe newspaper to receive a new website under Local World’s revamp of its newspapers’ online presence. It received a new URL at the same time, ely-news.co.uk replacing the old elyweeklynews.co.uk domain.

It comes out on Thursdays. A free e-edition is also available on the website.
