Braintree Weekly News (defunct)

The Braintree Weekly News was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper delivered to homes in and around the town of Braintree in northern Essex, including the smaller towns of Witham, Coggeshall, Hatfield Peverel, Kelvedon and Silver End.

It was founded in 1984 as the Mid-Essex Express. It changed title to the Essex Weekly News in 1996, then to the Braintree and Witham Weekly News in January 2002, keeping that name until May 2011.

It was published by Newsquest (Essex) as a companion to their weekly paid-for title for the area, the Braintree and Witham Times. The editorial offices were in Braintree.

The Weekly News had no website of its own; the link below is to the Times‘s website.

It came out on Thursdays. A free e-edition was also available after registration.

It ceased publication in the late summer of 2013.
