the Leader (Wrexham edition)

the Leader (Wrexham edition) is a daily tabloid newspaper sold on Monday to Friday in the North Welsh city of Wrexham (Wrecsam) and the surrounding district, including the towns of Llangollen, Ruabon, Rhosllanerchrugog and Coedpoeth.

It was launched in 1973 and is the oldest and largest-circulated edition of the Leader. Its title was initially just the Evening Leader, with no geographical indication; it became the Wrexham Evening Leader with the launch of the Flintshire Evening Leader and Chester Evening Leader in 1997. All three were brought together as editions of the Leader in 2009.

It’s published by NWN Media (formerly North Wales Newspapers), an independent family-owned company that celebrated 200 years of existence in 2009 and is based in nearby Mold.

A fourth edition, the Ruthin & Denbigh Evening Leader, started publication in October 2008 but ceased again the following year.

The editorial offices are at the company’s head offices in Mold.

An e-edition is also available on the website (by paid subscription).

It also has a free weekend companion paper, the Wrexham Leader.
