All about the United Kingdom’s national, regional and local press

Sunday Mail

The Sunday Mail is a red-top Sunday tabloid newspaper with its editorial offices in Glasgow. It bills itself as “Scotland’s best read Sunday newspaper”; in fact, it’s Scotland’s biggest-selling newspaper overall.

Up until December 2011 it was published by Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail Ltd, part of Trinity Mirror‘s Scottish operations, but Trinity Mirror merged that with its Scottish regional and local newspaper subsidiary, Scottish & Universal Newspapers, to form Media Scotland. As is evident from the name of the old company, it’s the sister title of Trinity Mirror’s Daily Record and presumably dates back to the time when that paper took over the North British Daily Mail, ie 1901.

It shares the Record‘s left-wing political stance.

Besides the main edition, there’s also a European edition. Apps are also available for Android and iOS devices.

It was founded in 1914 and has been published under its present title from 1919 onwards – previously it was the Sunday Mail & Record.
