Press and Journal
The P&J is Scotland’s oldest daily newspaper; it started out in 1748 as the Aberdeen Journal. It’s also the best-selling broadsheet in Scotland, comfortably outstripping both The Herald and The Scotsman.
It’s sometimes sneered at for its regional focus, which affects both the size and scope of its reporting on the wider world – it’s been nicknamed the “Parochial and Journal” for that.
Its parent company, Aberdeen Journals, is owned by D. C. Thomson of Dundee, who bought it from Daily Mail and General Trust in 2006.
