The Herald
Founded as the Glasgow Advertiser in 1783, The Herald is currently Scotland’s biggest-selling national broadsheet, outstripping its great rival The Scotsman.
It became the Herald and Advertiser in 1802, then the Glasgow Herald (still perhaps the name it’s most widely known as) from 1805 to 1992. Scottish Television bought it in 1996, at which point the combined company was renamed the Scottish Media Group.
Politically, it’s centre-left.
