Ayrshire Post

The Ayrshire Post is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold across South Ayrshire (including Ayr, Prestwick and Troon) and the former Cumnock and Doon Valley district in East Ayrshire.

It was founded in 1880 as a Liberal newspaper in competition to the Conservative Ayr Advertiser. In 1968 it incorporated The Troon Herald and Ayrshire Advertiser, which had been founded in 1893, and was retitled the Ayrshire Post and Troon Herald. It dropped the Herald from the title once more in 1987.

It’s published by Media Scotland (formerly Scottish & Universal Newspapers), the Scottish division of Trinity Mirror. The editorial offices are in Ayr.

There’s a sub-edition for the southern part of South Ayrshire, the Carrick Post. Until 2009 there was also a freesheet companion, the Ayrshire World, but that paper was closed in the light of declining advertising revenue.

It lost its own website at ayrshirepost.net in 2013 as a result of Trinity Mirror’s rolling programme of website revamps in which they closed local weekly newspaper websites in favour of coverage from their important regional dailies’ sites.

It comes out on Fridays. An e-edition’s also available by paid subscription.
