Newry Democrat

The Newry Democrat is a weekly tabloid newspaper produced in full colour and sold in the City of Newry, County Down, southern Co. Armagh and northern Co. Louth across the border in the Republic.

Until 2010 it was published by the TCH Group, Cork-based publishers of the Irish Examiner, but they sold it to Lord Kilclooney’s Alpha Newspaper Group in September of that year. The editorial offices are in Newry.

It was formerly the lead title in a two-title series for Co. Down together with the Downpatrick weekly tabloid the Down Democrat. The two titles were merged in June 2009 as The Newry Democrat incorporating the Down Democrat – in practice, the Down Democrat and its editorial offices in Downpatrick closed.

It comes out on Tuesdays.
