Tamworth Herald
The Tamworth Herald is a weekly tabloid newspaper for the South East Staffordshire town of Tamworth and its surrounding area.
It’s owned and published by Central Independent Newspapers, which has been part of Northcliffe Media (itself part of the Daily Mail & General Trust) since 1999, when it was sold by the Kent-based Adscene Group (which had only owned CIN since 1996).
It was first published in 1868 as “a carefully digested epitome of domestic and foreign news – with instructive and humorous literary selections.” The Atherstone Herald was acquired in the 1950s, the Coleshill Chronicle in 1964.
There are two local sub-editions: the Atherstone Herald and the Coleshill Herald. All three come out on Thursdays. There’s also an associated freesheet: the Tamworth Herald Leader.
