Nuneaton News

The Nuneaton News is both a paid-for evening and a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper (the Wednesday edition being the freesheet) published on Monday to Friday for the town of Nuneaton and the surrounding area in north Warwickshire and south-west Leicestershire, including Hinckley and the smaller towns of Bedworth and Hartshill.

It was founded in 1992 as an independent publication called the Evening News following the decision of the Nuneaton Evening Tribune to go weekly. It was subsequently renamed the Heartland Evening News (and the masthead still bears the sub-title “Incorporating The Heartland Evening News”).

In 2006 Staffordshire Newspapers (part of the Iliffe News & Media group, then owned by the Yattendon Investment Trust but merged with Northcliffe Media to form the new Local World group at the end of 2012) took over the HEN. In 2008 an agreement with Observer Standard Newspapers led to the HEN contributing to that company’s Nuneaton Observer weekly freesheet.

In January 2009 a further shake-up led to a change of title to the Nuneaton News and the decision to make one issue a week (the Wednesday edition) a freesheet, including the property pages.

The editorial offices are in Nuneaton (and were shared with the Nuneaton Observer until that title’s demise in January 2009).

It’s available as an e-edition on paid subscription. The earlier free e-edition on Wednesdays appears to have been withdrawn.
