Burton Trader (defunct)

The Burton Trader was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the town of Burton-upon-Trent and surrounding parts of south-eastern Staffordshire and South Derbyshire.

It was founded in 1970 (as the Burton, Ashby & South Derbyshire Trader) and was published by Trinity Mirror Midlands from offices in Burton.

It closed in the summer of 2009 along with eight other weekly newspapers across the Midlands. Some of the staff went on to work in a new weekly freesheet for the area, the Independent Trader, founded in October 2009. However, the Independent Trader itself was not published following Christmas 2009, and it was reported in early February 2010 that its telephone lines were suspended.

The website, part of Trinity Mirror’s icNetwork chain of websites, is still online, but hasn’t been updated since July 2009.
