Central Somerset Gazette

The Central Somerset Gazette is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the Mid Somerset area around the cathedral city of Wells and the towns of Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury, Castle Cary and Street.

It was founded in 1861 and, remarkably, has kept the same title throughout. It’s published by Mid Somerset News & Media, a branch of what used to be the Daily Mail & General Trust‘s regional newspaper publishing division, Northcliffe Media; Northcliffe became part of the new Local World media group at the end of 2012.

It’s one of a series of two titles for Mid Somerset; the smaller Cheddar Valley Gazette covers the north-western part of the distribution area. The editorial offices of both are in Wells.

As with all Northcliffe’s titles for Somerset, its web presence used to be through their thisissomerset.co.uk website. However, Local World took the decision that all former Northcliffe titles should have their own “publisher-branded” website by the summer of 2013.

It comes out on Thursdays.
