Thanet Adscene (defunct)

The Thanet Adscene was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the Isle of Thanet in the north-eastern corner of Kent, including the towns of Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate.

It was published by Kent Regional News & Media (formerly Kent Regional Newspapers), which became a branch of what was the Daily Mail & General Trust’s regional newspaper publishing division, Northcliffe Media, upon being acquired from Trinity Mirror in 2007. It was launched in 1981 as the Margate edition of a more widely published Adscene newspaper, but became a free-standing title in 1999 as the Isle of Thanet Adscene before adopting the shorter title above in 2001.

The editorial offices were in Margate and collocated with the Isle of Thanet Gazette, which moved in January 2009 from the offices in Union Row which it had occupied for the previous 110 years.

It was a companion to KRN’s two paid weekly titles for Thanet, the Gazette and the Thanet Times.

It came out on Thursdays.

It was merged into the Thanet Times – which became mostly a freesheet – in October 2009.
