All about the United Kingdom’s national, regional and local press

Hampshire Independent

The Hampshire Independent is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper distributed through pickup points throughout the county of Hampshire, from Aldershot to Yateley.

It was launched in August 2012 as a companion to the Mid Hampshire Observer and West Hampshire Observer by independent publishers Hampshire Media, the brainchild of Jez Walder and Mark O’Connor, both of whom were formerly on the staff of the Hampshire Chronicle but left in 2000 when Newsquest took it over.

All three newspapers share the same editorial offices in Winchester and a single website.

It comes out on Fridays. A free e-edition is also available via email, as is a smartphone app for iOS devices.
