Dorking Advertiser

The Dorking Advertiser is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the town of Dorking in central Surrey and the surrounding villages in the District of Mole Valley, in the part of the North Downs known as the Surrey Hills.

It was founded in 1887 and is part of a two-title series for central Surrey along with the Leatherhead Advertiser – indeed, from 1902 to 1960 the two were published together as the Dorking and Leatherhead Advertiser. The Dorking part then resumed its separate existence as the Dorking Advertiser and County Post until 1973, when it readopted its original title.

In July 2007 former owners Trinity Mirror sold both Advertisers along with their parent title, the Surrey Mirror to East Surrey & Sussex News and Media, part of what used to be the Daily Mail & General Trust‘s local newspapers division, Northcliffe Media; Northcliffe’s now part of Local World. The editorial offices were formerly in Dorking, but have now been centralised with the Mirror‘s in Redhill.

For several years it shared Northcliffe’s thisissurreytoday.co.uk website with the Leatherhead Advertiser and the Mirror. However, in early 2013 Local World took the decision to give all Northcliffe titles their own “publisher-branded” websites.
