All about the United Kingdom’s national, regional and local press

Wirral Globe

The Wirral Globe is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper distributed to homes across the Wirral peninsula, including the whole of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral in Merseyside.

It was founded in 1973. It’s now published by Newsquest (North West) from editorial offices in Birkenhead.

Until 2009 it appeared in four editions:

  • Birkenhead
  • Wallasey
  • Bebington and Bromborough
  • West Wirral

However, in that year the four editions were consolidated into two: Birkenhead & Wallasey and West Wirral & Bebington. By 2012 there was only a single edition.

It’s one of the biggest freesheets in circulation terms, with over 100,000 copies distributed each week.

Both editions come out on Wednesdays and are also available as free e-editions on the website.
