The South Lakes Citizen

The South Lakes Citizen – technically The South Lakes and North Lancs Citizen since the 6 March 2013 edition – is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper distributed to homes in and around the towns of Kendal and Ulverston in southern Cumbria (historically in Westmorland and the Furness exclave of Lancashire respectively).

It’s published by Westmorland Gazette Newspapers, a branch of Newsquest (North West), and was founded in 2000 as a companion to their paid-for weekly tabloid for the area, The Westmorland Gazette, whose website and editorial offices (in Kendal) it shares.

Since early 2012 copies have also been available by pickup from supermarkets in Windermere and Carnforth.

The South Lakes and North Lancs part of the masthead is in very small print, which gives the newspaper the appearance of a local edition of an overall Citizen group of freesheets for Lancashire.

It comes out on Wednesdays. An e-edition’s also available free on the website.
