Sale & Altrincham Messenger

The Sale & Altrincham Messenger is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper distributed to homes in the towns of Sale and Altrincham (plus neighbouring Bowdon, Hale and Timperley – the latter made famous by Frank Sidebottom) in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, formerly in Cheshire.

It was founded in 1974. It’s published by Newsquest (North West) as one of a series of two freesheets for south-western suburban Greater Manchester; the other is the Stretford & Urmston Messenger. Both share a common website, with local news pages for each locality in the catchment area. The editorial offices moved from Sale to Stretford in 2013.

Although it’s nominally a freesheet (and the bulk of the print run is delivered free), a few copies are sold at the cover price.

It comes out on Thursdays.
