Bootle Times (defunct)

The Bootle Times was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper delivered to homes in the Merseyside (formerly Lancashire) town of Bootle to the north of Liverpool, and neighbouring communities in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton including Seaforth and Netherton.

It was founded in 1878. In 1965 it merged with the Bootle Herald, founded in 1949, and was known as the Bootle Times Herald from then until it reverted to the Bootle Times title in 1971.

It was published by Sefton & West Lancashire Mediamix, part of Trinity Mirror North West & North Wales, from editorial offices in Southport which it shared with other Mediamix titles including the Southport Visiter and the Crosby Herald.

Although the circulation was overwhelmingly by free delivery, a small number of copies were sold through the news trade.

It came out on Thursdays.

In November 2011 Trinity Mirror North West & North Wales announced that as of January 2012 the Times and two other Merseyside freesheets, the Maghull & Aintree Star and the Anfield & Walton Star would be merged into a single newspaper, The Star, to be distributed as a free supplement to the Tuesday edition of the Liverpool Echo as well as being sold as a stand-alone title.
