Evening Chronicle
The Evening Chronicle is the evening newspaper for Newcastle-upon-Tyne, although it’s sold much more widely – throughout Tyneside and Wearside, as well as most of Northumberland, parts of County Durham and even into the Borders. It claims to be the region’s Number One newspaper.
It was founded in 1885 as a broadsheet, and remained one up until 1997 when it switched to tabloid format.
It’s published by NCJ Media, an arm of the Trinity Mirror publishing giant. It’s the evening sister paper of The Journal.
There are four editions:
- Regionwide
- Newcastle & Gateshead
- North & Coast
- Late Night Final
There’s also a series of associated weekly freesheets, the Chronicle Extra.
