Chronicle eXTRA – North Tyneside (defunct)

The North Tyneside Chronicle eXTRA was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the northern bank of the mouth of the River Tyne, taking in the towns of North Shields, Longbenton, Tynemouth, Whitley Bay and Wallsend, as well as smaller communities in the area.

It was founded in 1991 as the North Tyneside Herald & Post and was published by NCJ Media, part of the nationwide Trinity Mirror group, as a companion to their evening tabloid for the North East of England, the Evening Chronicle.

The Herald & Post series was relaunched as the Chronicle eXTRA series in 2007; at its peak it consisted of seven titles, of which only the Chronicle eXTRA – Newcastle and the Chronicle eXTRA – Gateshead now survive.

It had no website of its own; the link below is to the Evening Chronicle‘s website. The editorial offices were likewise those of the Chronicle, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne‘s Groat Market

It came out on Wednesdays. It closed, together with the Chronicle eXTRA – South Tyneside, in July 2009.
