Wembley Observer

The Wembley Observer is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper delivered to homes across the London Borough of Brent, including the suburbs of Sudbury, Alperton, Perivale and Greenford around Wembley and Neasden, Cricklewood and Harlesden around Willesden.

It’s part of the Harrow Observer series of weekly tabloids published by Trinity Mirror Southern for north-western Greater London. The editorial offices for the Observer series moved from Harrow to Uxbridge in early 2009.

Although it was named in the masthead of the very first newspaper in the Observer series (the Wealdstone, Harrow & Wembley Observer, first published in 1895) It first appeared as a separate title in 1946 under the name Wembley Observer and Gazette; the Gazette was dropped in 1965. From 1975 to 1984 it was known as the Wembley Observer and Wembley News.

Its present incarnation was launched in 2010 as the Wembley & Willesden Observer, a result of the merging of the earlier separate titles for Brent, the earlier Wembley Observer and the Willesden Observer. However, the “Willesden” part of the title was dropped within a year.

An associated freesheet, the Wembley Leader, ceased publication in October 2010. The Observer series switched from paid-for to freesheet publication at the same time.

All the titles in the series shared a common website, with local community mini-sites, until October 2013, when Trinity Mirror Southern replaced it with a single website for all its West London titles, getwestlondon.co.uk.

It comes out on Thursdays.
