Sutton Guardian

The Sutton Guardian (according to its masthead, SuttonGuardian.co.uk) is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper distributed to households (and, more recently, through pickup points in supermarkets, estate agents and convenience stores as well) in the London Borough of Sutton including the suburbs of Cheam, Wallington and Carshalton.

It was founded in 1983 as the Sutton Borough Guardian, changing its title later that year to the Sutton & Banstead Guardian. In 1986 it became the Sutton edition of an multi-edition Guardian for south-western London, before resuming its free-standing identity under its original title in 1990. It then spent two years as the Sutton & Cheam Guardian from 1999 to 2001 before becoming the Sutton Guardian.

It’s published by Newsquest South & West London, part of the Newsquest group, which in turn is owned by US media giants Gannett. The editorial offices are at Newsquest South London’s headquarters, which moved from North Cheam to Sutton in late 2011.

It has a sister paper, the Epsom Guardian. There’s also an associated property freesheet, the Property Guardian.

It comes out on Thursdays. An e-edition’s also available free via the website.
