Lewisham & Catford News Shopper

The Lewisham & Catford News Shopper is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper distributed to homes in the London Borough of Lewisham, including its main settlement of Lewisham and the suburbs of Catford, Forest Hill and Blackheath.

It’s published by Newsquest. It’s one of several News Shopper freesheets distributed in East and South East London, the first of them being the Orpington News Shopper founded in 1965; the Lewisham & Catford edition first appeared in 1968.

Rupert Murdoch’s News International took over the group in 1969, selling it to the owners of the Surrey Advertiser in 1975. In 1984 Reed International bought the group and held onto it for twelve years before selling it to Newsquest.

All the News Shopper titles share editorial offices in Bromley and a common website, with sub-domains for each main title. The Lewisham & Catford News Shopper and the closely related Greenwich News Shopper share a sub-domain (which used to include the now defunct Woolwich & Plumstead News Shopper).

It comes out on Wednesdays. An e-edition’s also available on the website – it used to be free only to those living within the catchment area, but is now available to all, though you have to give an email address.
