Evening Standard
The Evening Standard is a tabloid evening newspaper sold in London and surrounding areas. It was first published in 1827 as The Standard.
It’s owned by Associated Newspapers Ltd, which in turn is part of Daily Mail and General Trust. Accordingly, its political stance is right-wing and its tone is the same mix of doom-and-gloom, end of civilisation stuff on the one hand and simpering over middle-class aspirational icons on the other. It also has a tendency to dismiss, or at least forget the existence of, the United Kingdom outside London and the Home Counties.
It covers a mix of local, national and international news, as well as a fairly hefty amount of business and financial reporting. It also has a tradition of extensive arts coverage.
