All about the United Kingdom’s national, regional and local press

Rutland Times

The Rutland Times is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in Rutland, England’s smallest county.

It was founded in 1977. From the outset a major plank in its editorial stance was a demand for the restoration of county status to Rutland, which it had lost in the reorganisation of local government in England and Wales in 1974 (it was absorbed into Leicestershire) and regained, after a fashion, when the district gained unitary authority status in 1997.

It’s published by East Midlands Newspapers, part of the Johnston Press group. Its editorial offices used to be in the county town, Oakham, but have now moved to nearby Stamford.

It underwent a relaunch and facelift in October 2012.

It comes out on Thursdays.
