Stortford Scene (defunct)

The Stortford Scene was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the town of Bishop’s Stortford and surrounding smaller towns and villages on the East Hertfordshire/West Essex boundary.

It was launched in September 2010 by Archant Herts & Cambs as a “news-zine”, and was one of a series of four Scene publications which claimed to fuse “the excitement and thrust of a newspaper with the glamour and comfort of a magazine”. The other editions covered Hertford and Ware, Harlow and Broxbourne. All were distributed by brand-to-hand and pickup point (including parish councils) as well as direct to households.

The editorial offices were at Archant Herts & Cambs’s head offices in Stevenage and were shared with the other editions, as was the website; the link below is to the Bishop’s Stortford news pages.

It came out on Thursdays. Archived e-editions are available free on the website.

The series ceased publication in June 2011. The closure was blamed on market conditions and increasing business costs.
