St Albans & Harpenden Review

The St Albans & Harpenden Review is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the Hertfordshire towns of St Albans and Harpenden.

It’s published by Review Newspapers (part of Newsquest London) from their offices in Watford. It was previously a companion paper to the paid-for weekly the St Albans Observer (with which it shared offices and a website), but now seems to have incorporated it altogether. It was actually founded over a decade before the Observer; it was launched in 1973 (by Alan Drake and Roy Scott) as St Albans’s first freesheet. It was taken over by Newsquest in May 1998, two years after the Observer.

The majority of the distribution is direct to homes, but from 2011 a percentage of the print run (initially less than a tenth, now considerably more) was made available by pickup from supermarkets.

There’s a sub-edition for Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield, the Welwyn & Hatfield Review.

It comes out on Wednesdays. An e-edition is also available free on the website.
