Hertford & Ware Scene (defunct)
The Hertford & Ware Scene was a short-lived weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the towns of Hertford and Ware and surrounding villages in eastern Hertfordshire.
It was launched in September 2010 by Archant Herts & Cambs as a “news-zine”, replacing the earlier East Herts Herald.
It was one of a series of four Scene publications which claimed to fuse “the excitement and thrust of a newspaper with the glamour and comfort of a magazine”. The other editions covered Broxbourne, Harlow and Bishop’s Stortford. All were distributed by brand-to-hand and pickup point (including parish councils) as well as direct to households.
The editorial offices were at Archant Herts & Cambs’s head offices in Stevenage and were shared with the other editions, as was the website; the link below is to the Hertford and Ware news pages.
It came out on Thursdays. Archived e-editions are available free on the website.
The series ceased publication in June 2011. The closure was blamed on market conditions and increasing business costs.
